Inclement Weather Policy & Procedure

School Administration will adhere to the following policies on days when it is storming or the temperature is below 42 degrees.

Before School

If it is raining during arrival, students will enter the building and proceed directly to their 1st Period Classroom. All entry doors will open at 8:05 a.m. 

During Lunch

If it is raining during lunch, students will remain indoors.

After School

If it is storming at dismissal, students may remain in the building and report to the auditorium. Students may exit the building through the front doors once they have confirmed that their ride is outside.

INCLEMENT WEATHER FAQ

Can students bring an umbrella to school? 
Yes! Students can bring umbrellas. Umbrellas must fit inside backpacks, as we do not have common spaces to store these items.

Can students wear a raincoat or winter jacket with a hood to school when it's raining or cold?

Yes! Outerwear is allowed, but students must place it in their backpack once inside. 

Does DISD release students early when there is a threat of severe weather? 
DISD has more than 140,000 students across over 220 campuses. Aside from the challenge of coordinating buses, staggered dismissal schedules, and making sure every child has a safe place to go. Sending everyone home early can also put students on the road right when conditions are at their worst, or leave some kids at home without an adult. Often the safest place for students during severe weather is right where they are, inside a secure building with staff.
