J.L. LONG Math and Science Team (TMSCA)
The Math and Science team is a “built-in” elective day class to support students who desire to excel in Mathematics or Science in order to meet their individual needs within a challenging program. Few middle schools have this “built-in” day class like J. L. Long does. The team prepares for, practices, and competes at the TMSCA (Texas Math and Science Coaching Association) competitions each year.
The purpose of TMSCA is to enhance competition in UIL Math & Science contests through grade level and team competition. There are four categories in competition such as Number Sense (Mental Math), Calculator (it helps students to build a strong mathematical sense using a scientific calculator), General Math (6th -12th grade level of math) and Science.
Teacher's recommendation by and approval of Ms. Malana & Mr. Fernandez is necessary to join the Math & Science elective team/class.
