J.L. LONG Math and Science Team (TMSCA)
The Math and Science team is a built-in elective day class to support students who desire to excel in Mathematics or Science to meet their individual needs within a challenging program. Few middle schools have this built-in day class like J. L. Long does. The team prepares for practices and competes at the TMSCA (Texas Math and Science Coaching Association) competitions each year.
The purpose of TMSCA is to enhance competition in UIL Math & Science contests through grade-level and team competition. The four catagories of competition are Number Sense (Mental Math), Calculator (it helps students to build a strong mathematical sense using a scientific calculator), General Math (6th -12th grade level of math), and Science.
Teacher recommendations and approval from Ms. Malana and Mr. Fernandez are required to join the Math and Science elective team and class.
