Welcome to an exciting year at J.L. Long Middle School! Whether you're returning to campus or joining us for the first time, we're so glad you're here! I'd like to extend a special welcome to our new 6th-grade students and families; we’re thrilled you've joined the Long community!

My name is Pennie Marshall, and it is truly an honor to serve as your PTA President this year. Our PTA is committed to supporting our students, teachers, and staff and to creating opportunities for our families to connect and make a difference.

One of the best ways to support our school is to get involved! You can get involved early by joining the PTA and participating in our Long Strong Family Giving Campaign. In April, you can volunteer at our biggest fundraiser, the Long Run! Whether you serve on a committee or simply cheer on the success of our students and staff, every contribution helps make Long an even stronger place for our kids.

Please also take a moment to bookmark the PTA website! The “Campus Info” drop down has the answers to most commonly asked questions such as attendance policy, bell schedule, dress code and more. If something isn’t covered, feel free to reach out to me (President@JLLongPTA.com) anytime. 

Together, we can make this an incredible year for every Buccaneer. Thank you for being part of the Long family. We can't wait to see all we'll accomplish together this year!

The PTA is proud to bring back the Long Strong Family Giving Campaign. By making a quick donation this month, families can show their Long pride, get some great new Long swag, and contribute to the PTA operating budget for critical items such as: 

• Educational and arts enrichment opportunities
• Student safety and well-being initiatives
• Teacher and staff wish lists, classroom resources, and club support
• Campus and facility improvements... and so much more!!

Currently, 65% of our operating budget is funded by generous donations from outside sources like Lakewood Early Childhood PTA and feeder pattern PTAs. Through Long Strong, we have an opportunity to invest in our own school and increase the impact of giving from within the J.L. Long community.

Visit the Spirit Store during Meet the Teacher for in-person sales and order pickup from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Please note that this is the final pre-order pickup opportunity in August. The next pickup date will be September 3rd.

Online ordering will reopen in mid-August, and the next in-person sale and pickup event will be held on September 3rd from 3:45 PM to 4:15 PM in the Spirit Store. Be sure to follow @JLLongPTA on Instagram or check our website for restocking announcements and store updates in the coming weeks!

Spirit Store is located in Room 237; when you walk in main doors, take a left and it is in the hallway between the gym and Zoo Crew!

• Sports Physical Form (needed by any student wanting to participate in sports)
• Register Your Athlete with Rank One (new this year!!)

The SportsYou app is used by Long coaches to send relevant information for each sport throughout the year. Download the app and join through codes on website. Students do not participate in sports at Long until 7th grade, so incoming 6th graders do not need to get SportsYou, order athletic wear, or get a physical yet.

Good Afternoon Long Athletic Family!

As we get ready to kick off this new school year, we are also gearing up for our Fall Sports! On Wednesday, Aug 12th from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM in the Long Auditorium, we will have our Fall Sports Informational Meeting, where we will discuss everything you will need to know about the upcoming seasons for Softball, Cross Country, and Football! It is suggested that if your child is planning on playing one of these sports, at least 1 parent should be in attendance. If you can't make it, we will post notes about it afterwards, but of course it's better if you hear it in person! Student Athletes are encouraged to attend as well.

This unique club empowers middle school youth to become conservation leaders! Every day, students are inspired to love and care for 16 animals (and growing!) on the campus of J.L. Long Middle School. Through the Zoo Crew program, our youth learn about the animals' needs, as well as about their various habitats and ecosystems. 

Hosting an animal outside of school is also extended to our club members, who can then continue the care and love for these creatures over the summer and holidays. 

The club meets BEFORE school at 7:15am and ends by 8:00am, so kids can get breakfast and get ready for the school day. 

High academic grades, obeying the rules, and respectful behavior at all times is expected in caring for these creatures.

Have you ever held a rat eating python named Medusa? Our students have!

Our J.L. Long Dance Department needs your help to get dance notebooks into the classroom for every dance student! Mrs. AH is currently raising funds to provide notebooks, pencils, bins, and a pencil sharpener to every dance student at Long.
