2026-2027 Dress Code Updates

- Uniform top colors are now red for 6th grade, white for 7th grade, and navy for 8th grade. These three colors are supported by the uniform assistant program.
- No hoodies. This is to increase safety and security (hoodies up limits visibility to campus cameras and staff).
- Skirts and shorts must be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee.

Reminders:

- Shorts are required under skirts.
- Long athletic shirts may only be worn on Fridays (this is applicable only for 7th and 8th graders).

Admin Message Re: Schedules (Sent via Remind 6/17)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, you may soon see student schedules go live in PowerSchool. Please note that our campus counselors are currently off contract and will return on July 29th. Additionally, please be aware that incoming 6th-grade students are not yet officially accessible in PowerSchool to fully and directly communicate with all stakeholders.

To ensure everything is ready, students will be able to officially pick up their finalized schedules during the final week of July. Ahead of that time, we will provide a Schedule Request Form. This form will allow you to share any scheduling concerns or course discrepancies, so we can address them promptly upon our return.

We appreciate your patience and partnership as we work to ensure a smooth start to the school year for every student!

7th & 8th Graders: ID & Schedule Pick Up on August 5th

All rising 7th and 8th graders are invited to attend an afternoon session at J.L. Long on August 5th from 1:30-3pm. The goal is to provide parents a chance to meet teachers, talk with counselors, and for students to have ID badge photos taken in preparation for the first day of school. There is no sign-up needed for this event.

Spirit Store will be back open online starting tomorrow, July 10th. Orders placed will then be available to porch pickup on July 28th. There are some skirts in stock, but we are still waiting for the new restock to come in – we will announce on Instagram (@JLLongPTA) as soon as we get them in and will do a quick pickup shortly after. The storefront Spirit Store will be open on August 5th during Buc Camp from 9-12:30 (Room 237 at Long).

Students do not participate in sports at Long until 7th grade, so incoming 6th graders do not need to get SportsYou, order athletic wear, or get a physical yet.

6th Grade Soccer is Here!

What a time to be a soccer fan this year with FIFA World Cup 2026 in our own backyard!  With the Summer heat and other activities, it’s easy to forget about local soccer! However, in its continuing tradition of giving new sixth grade students at J.L. Long Middle School an opportunity to play team sports, the YMCA and JL Long PTA are hoping for another great season of sixth grade soccer!   Under UIL Rules, sixth grade students cannot participate in school team sports, so this is a fantastic opportunity for children to stay active.  The team is co-ed and open to anyone attending JL Long or any nearby schools.  Players can be of any skill level including beginners.  The Fall teams first practice will be on August 18th and scheduled games will begin Saturday August 29th! Click here to learn more and register.

Please consider contributing to the Geneva Heights Peace Pantry on Saturday, July 18th.
