In order to raise awareness on the link between school attendance and academic achievement, Dallas ISD Parent Services is celebrating September Attendance Awareness Month with a variety of ways for students and schools to participate. School attendance is essential to academic success, but too often students, parents and schools don’t realize how quickly absences, excused or unexcused, can add up to academic trouble. Chronic absence – missing just 18 days per school year- can lead to third graders being unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing courses and ninth-graders dropping out of high school.
Efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism help give all students an equitable opportunity to learn, grow and thrive academically, emotionally and socially.
Aim for Perfect Attendance
Students with perfect attendance during the month of September will be entered into a raffle for a special prize. One student will be selected from each trustee district to be recognized districtwide. Visit www.dallasisd.org/attendance for more information.
Trustee District Champion School Competition
In recognition of Attendance Awareness Month, each school will compete against others in their trustee district. The school with the best overall attendance rate in the month of September will be declared the “Trustee District Champion School” and will be awarded the coveted Trustee Champion Banner.
Attendance Awareness Month Social Media Challenge
Participants will share what school attendance and learning mean to them by using the hashtag #ShowUpDallasISD on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok, from September 1–30.
