Principal's Message

Dear J.L. Long Families,

It has been such a busy first few weeks at J.L. Long! Thank you all for the warm welcome and for your patience as we have put into place our new administration and several wonderful new staff members, as well as the construction providing our campus new, needed improvements. It has been my pleasure to meet many of you and your children at Buc Camp, Meet the Teacher, and at the school these past couple of weeks. I look forward to a productive, meaningful, exciting first year at Long!

Message From The PTA President

Hello Long Families!

I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kimberly Bocell, and I have the honor and pleasure of being this year’s J.L. Long PTA President! My oldest son, Jay, “graduated” from Long this past year, and my youngest son, Reid, will be starting 6th grade tomorrow! To the new students and faculty, I want to send my warmest welcome. And to all those returning, welcome back! We have a lot of “firsts” this school year with a new Executive Director, Principal, and Assistant Principals, but I am excited about the changes and am confident this will be a fabulous year!

There are so many exciting events coming up this fall and throughout the year, so to stay in the know, please create an account on our website, subscribe to the Buc News, and follow us on Facebook and Instagram! (See the links below!) We have an incredible PTA Board who are ready to serve our students, staff, and Long community in all the ways! We are excited to work with our Long Families to make this our best year yet!

I want to thank our Buc Camp Chairs – Ida Gleaton and Corey Martindale, and Mr. Jones, our teacher rep, and their committee for making this year’s Buc Camp (i.e., 6th grade orientation) a HUGE success! Also, thank you to our Sprit Wear Chairs Jenn McGuirk and Susan Powell and committee for making our new “Sprit Store” a huge hit! (Shout out to Principal Cronin for giving us the space!) Big thanks as well to our Staff Appreciation Chairs Cyndi Hull and Sloan Dix and committee for giving our staff such a great welcome back! And finally, shout out to our Communications Committee Pennie Marshall, Susan McKelvy, Alex Fergus, and Lauren Rench for keeping the website updated and getting all the virtual information posts created and out there to keep the Long Community in the loop!

Cheers to a great 2025-2026 Year!

The Latest From Long

Starting Aug. 12, Dallas ISD will enforce HB 1481, a new Texas law banning student use of personal electronic devices during the school day. This includes phones, smartwatches, tablets, laptops, AirPods, and smart glasses.

Elementary: Teachers will collect devices and store them securely until dismissal.

Secondary: Students will use pouches to store devices, which can be unlocked at the end of the day.

If pouches aren’t available on day one, campuses will have a plan to secure devices in backpacks.
