STAAR Testing for 6th and 8th Grade will begin in May (and will continue for our 7th Graders). In an effort to keep parents informed of the requirements established by the TEA for student testing and safety, JL Long Administration will be hosting parent meetings via Zoom for the each grade (schedule below). Parents are encouraged to attend and learn about the plan that our school has enacted to test students safely and effectively.

Specific testing dates are still being finalized and will be published in the coming weeks via the Buc News, PTA Website and JL Long Insider Page.

Parents who were unable to attend the STAAR Parent Information Sessions, you may view the information presented HERE. We have also included some answers to Frequently Asked Questions after viewing the presentation.

7th GRADE WRITING STAAR

Our 7th Grade Students will begin taking the STAAR Writing Test in April. In order to maintain all proper safety protocols for our students, they will be tested in smaller groups. Groups are split up by the beginning letter of the students' last names. Please see the schedule below for details on when your 7th Grade Student will take the Writing STAAR.

All 7th Grade Students (Virtual and On-Campus) not taking the STAAR should plan to attend school as usual on days that they are not scheduled to test.

Yearbook Sales End April 30th!!! There will be no extensions, so be sure to purchase one for your student today!

Spirit Store is Open!

The Spirit Store is open for pre-orders until noon on May 3rd! All pre-ordered items will be available for pick-up in front of the school from 3:45 - 5:15 pm on Wednesday, May 5th.

2021-2022 Registration

Registration for the 2021-2022 School Year is now open! Click HERE to visit DISD's website and begin the process of registering your student(s) for the next school year. Be sure to have digital copies of your ID and proof of residence to upload, as they will be required to complete the registration process.

LAST CHANCE! Upload Yearbook Photos Today!

Parents of Virtual Students: We are missing over 400 photos for this year's yearbook! If you have not uploaded a photo of your student to include in the yearbook, you can still do so this morning!

Virtual Students who came into the school to take a yearbook photo do not need to upload a picture. If you would like a proof/order form for your photo and have not received one, please contact Ms. McCatherine at amandamccatherine@gmail.com.

STAAR Prep and Attendance for Credit

JL Long will be hosting Saturday School both on-campus and virtually in the coming weeks to give our students the opportunity for extra preparation for STAAR Tests. Students who are at risk for losing credit due to absences may also attend Saturday School to make up seat time.

The schedule with Zoom Links for each Saturday will be release during the week and published on our PTA Website, via the Buc News and the JL Long Insider Page.

2021 Virtual Fam Jam

DISD will be hosting its annual Fam Jam virtually on April 22nd from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Families can attend and discuss topics such as COVID-19 and its impact on our schools, stress management and college readiness. Details can be found on our PTA Calendar or register to attend HERE!

Mockingbird Elementary Auction

On behalf of the PTA, we are pleased to announce that the 2021 Mockingbird Elementary School Auction, Deep in the Heart, will take place on Friday, April 30, 2021 at the Dallas Heritage Village.

Auction tickets will be available beginning Thursday, March 25th at 7pm along with details of our live performers.
