Mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 28th for the first-ever IB Fall Family Fest from 5:30-7pm at J.L. Long. This is an event for parents, guardians and their students to discover the 10 traits of the International Baccalaureate curriculum and learn how IB helps your students grow into global citizens. There will be hands-on activities, challenges and prizes!

Field Trip Volunteers Needed

Thanks to the generosity of Lydia Hills Philanthropies, Dallas ISD is able to provide all K–8 students across the district with a field trip experience this year. Each grade level will need 20 parent/guardian chaperones in addition to Long staff.

7th Grade: Nov 6 @ The Perot Museum of Nature and Science
8th Grade: Nov 20 @ Frontiers of Flight Museum
6th Grade: Jan 11 @ Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum

All chaperones must be VOLY-cleared

Chaperones will ride the bus with students and staff

20 spots per grade will be first come, first served

These Magnet & High School visits for 8th Grade also need at least 2 chaperones per visit. Please sign up here to be a chaperone.

The PTA Peace Pantry committee makes ~65 bags per week for students at Long. These take-home bags include non perishable items for a main meal as well as breakfast items and snacks. The Peace Pantry is made possible through monetary donations as well as food donations. Please consider a donation through our Amazon or Walmart wish lists!!

Thank you to everyone involved in September's Fill The Peace Pantry Drive By Donation event!! The Woodrow Community Peace Pantry was recently presented with a check for $15,000 from the event. Each Woodrow feeder pattern school, including Long, then received a check for $2,145 plus a share of all of the food that was donated directly. Amazing work!!

If you would like to help stock the Boutique at Long, items currently needed can be found on the Peace Pantry Amazon Wishlist. We also gladly accept like-new or gently used items. Please do not send anything that is stained, damaged, or has holes.

The most immediate needs are all uniforms, dress-code-approved sweatshirts, and toiletries.

Join the New J.L. Long Dads Club!

Dads Club is off and rolling after a fun kick off happy hour earlier this month. To join the email distribution list (or to sign up the Dad/Granddad/Uncle/Family Friend in your student's life), please email Doug Conner at douglasconner03@gmail.com.

The Lakewood Early Childhood PTA donated more than $500,000 to the Woodrow Wilson feeder pattern schools last year, including $105,000 to Long!! This extremely generous contribution to our school's budget is made possible by the proceeds from LECPTA's Home Tour & Auction Party weekend coming up on November 6-8. Make plans to attend and/or volunteer at the houses to make everything run smoothly! 7th graders and older may volunteer and earn hours for organizations such as NCL and NJHS by signing up here.

The 12th Annual WoodrowFest is today! Join us for a full day of golf, followed by an incredible evening of live music, food, drinks, and fun at White Rock Ale House, all while supporting students from Woodrow Wilson High School and feeder schools!
